Our History

“The Duck,” as it’s commonly known, is located on the first floor of the historic Perikomen View Hotel. Construction was completed in 1915 after nearly a decade of hard work. The hotel and bar catered to wealthy city folks who traveled by train to escape Philadelphia’s summer heat and relax, swim, and canoe in the Valley. The barroom location varied over the years, from the front of the building along Gravel Pike to the far back overlooking the water. The epoxy-topped bar is now centrally located on the first floor.

The Duck Inn and Hotel building was thoroughly revitalized in 2019 while carefully preserving the old charm of the 1900s. The renovations included a deck and a floating dock. In 2020, shortly after most of the upgrades were completed, a massive flood brought 18 inches of water above the first floor, setting a new high water mark and prompting additional renovations and cleanup.

Thirteen months later, in September 2021, Hurricane Ida arrived, bringing a new record-breaking flood of biblical proportions. Nearly seven feet of water swamped the first floor and ruined the restaurant bar. The damage caused a six-week closure and a third round of extensive renovations, including doubling the size of the dock and installing a new roof and pergola to meet customer wishes.

The new and improved Duck Inn Taproom is dry again, and we welcome you to join us to see the dramatic improvements!
